Philosophy

Participation in athletics is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to Holy Cross, to the team, to the student body, to the community, and to the student. Athletic programs are provided to help the student develop physically, mentally, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

Holy Cross believes athletics is an important part of a student's total educational experience. The success of our athletic program is based on our students’ abilities to balance their participation with their academic requirements. Our goal is to provide a structured environment where our student-athletes can develop responsibility, a strong work ethic, and self-discipline.

Athletic contests should emphasize fun, skills, and good sportsmanship. The element of competition and winning (though it exists) must never outweigh good sportsmanship and the educational value of contests.
