GIVING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

...

Your financial gift supports the people and programs that make Holy Cross an exceptional school. Financial gifts allow Holy Cross to employ talented teachers, offer a variety of academic classes, extracurricular activities and competitive athletic programs.

Financial gifts are necessary because tuition only makes up for approximately 70% of the cost to educate a Holy Cross student. To achieve our financial goals each year, we strategically partner with current parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends of Holy Cross for additional financial support.

Holy Cross understands the value of our education and what a diploma from our school means for each student. To increase tuition to cover the actual cost of all programs would make the school unaffordable to many families. We want our school to be accessible to all students regardless of the family’s financial position.

Planned giving is sometimes referred to as gift planning or legacy giving. It is a way to support Holy Cross which enables philanthropic individuals to make larger gifts than they could make from ordinary income. A planned gift is any major gift, made in a lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning.

  • Bequests: Bequests are made primarily through gifts of cash, securities, real estate, and tangible personal property.
  • Life Income Gifts: With life income gifts, Holy Cross invests the proceeds of your donated assets – whether in the form of cash, securities, or other appreciated property – and pays you, or designated beneficiaries, an income for life or for a specified term of years.
  • Retirement Plans: Holy Cross is designated as a beneficiary of the remainder or a percentage of your retirement plan.
  • Other Creative Methods: Charitable lead trusts and other options.

Yes. Holy Cross accepts both checks and credit cards.

Anyone who donates a gift of any amount will receive a receipt from the Advancement Department. The receipt is generated  once the donation has been processed and is mailed to the donor’s preferred mail address.

The Human Resources Office of the donor’s employer (or the donor’s spouse’s employer) will be able to provide necessary information on the company’s Matching Gift Program and the method the company uses to process matching requests.
