The Holy Cross Choir Department has been very successful this year in their pursuit of performing music. Under the direction of Meredith Hotard, the most successful choir in the district is going to New York in March . This is due to them receiving a superior rating in Atlanta the previous year, qualifying them to perform in Carnegie Hall alongside choirs across the country.
The 2017-2018 school year has been the year of singing for the tigers. So far, three members qualified for ACDA All State Choir (Ashton Stevens IV, Logan Puissegur, and Henry Hebert), four members qualified for LMEA All State Choir (Ashton Stevens IV, Logan Puissegur, Brian Fink and Trey Nickens), and one member in the NAFME All National Choir (Trey Nickens). These singers, alongside thirteen others, qualified for the LMEA all district choir, the most of any choir in the district. In other results, twelve members of the Holy Cross Concordia Honors Ensemble received a superior rating at Solo and Ensemble Festival which qualified them for State Vocal Rally on April 21 st at LSU.
As the superior singers progress through the rest of the semester, they will need to be on their A-game to maintain their standard of singing. The next big competition taken on will be Large Ensemble Festival, which will take place on March1 st. This will be the most difficult task thus far, as they must receive superior ratings on their three songs and either a superior or excellent rating in sight reading to qualify for the next round. If this is done, then the singers will have an opportunity to receive another top rating and make Holy Cross history. If this is done, then these singers would be the first Tiger Choir ever to take home a state ring.
If you would like to see the HC choir perform live, their next local concerts will be on March 15 th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for 7:00 PM and April 26 th at the Bisonnet Country Club for 6:00PM. Until then, you can listen to them by clicking here. The HC Choir is thankful for all the support of the Holy Cross family and cannot wait to perform again for their beloved school.
