Miss Ashante Knox has joined the Holy Cross Theology department taking over Mrs. Kass’ classes while she’s on maternity leave. I had the pleasure of getting to know her better for our interview. As a student in her class and interviewer, I can tell she is a generous and helpful teacher to all; I think even in the future she would be a great influence on our students, and we hope she stays in the department for next year. Here are some of the questions I asked to get to know her better:
Kevin: How do you like teaching at Holy Cross?
Miss Knox: “I love teaching at Holy Cross. The close-knit environment makes my days smoother. I love the bond that all the guys have with each other. It’s the best place to work at, in my opinion.”
Kevin: What are your favorite things about Holy Cross?
Miss Knox: “Honestly, my favorite thing about Holy Cross is the community and the open relationship with Christ. I love working at a Catholic School because I can openly talk about Jesus without worrying about losing my job. You cannot talk about God at public school.”
Kevin: What’s your fascination with theology?
Miss Knox: “I love talking about God. I talk about God for free and now I get paid to do it. I love teaching the boys new things about Christ. It’s especially cool to learn about the unique connections that each student makes with a specific topic. I just want to spread the good news about God and hope it lands. Even if it means only one or two students made a personal connection with Christ that day, then I did my job.”
Kevin: What’s your favorite superhero?
Miss Knox: “Dr. Strange, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Man… All of the Marvel Characters, actually. And we can’t forget about Black Panther (R.I.P Chadwick Boseman).”
Kevin: How do you enjoy teaching so far?
Miss Knox: “I love teaching. Even on the days when the students don’t love me back.”
Kevin: What’s your favorite pet?
Miss Knox: “I have a dog named Saint who is my whole world.”
Kevin: What are your intentions for next year?
Miss Knox: “Be better than I am this year. I always try to be better than the person I was yesterday. “
Kevin: What was your favorite subject in school?
Miss Knox: “English. I love reading and writing. Oh, and science.”
Kevin: Do you plan on coaching any sports at HC?
Miss Knox: “I’ve never really been an athlete. I was more of a dancer. If this was an all-girls school, then maybe I’d offer to coach a dance team. But that’s not the case. So, probably not.”
