Tigers in Theology

Theology is a key role in Holy Cross’ history and a way of molding a Holy Cross man. As a student here, I’ve been inspired to be more involved in my religion because it has a great impact on my life. Going out to help people and give back to the community is what my Holy Cross theology lessons inspire me to do. The Theology Department sees many things happen through their profession such as growth in knowledge, the test of faith amongst their students, and the will to understand God. Here at Holy Cross, religion begins at a young age and Ms. Natalie Adams, Primary Religion teacher, is a prime witness to this blessed opportunity seeing young minds grow and expand. Ms. Adams says, “I’m blessed to watch our little guys from Pre-K to 4th grade in their walk of Christ. It’s been a beautiful thing to experience with them.  They begin with us at just 4yrs old, and I try to give them an image in their minds of Jesus.  I teach them that they can talk to him, just as they would a friend.”  Ms. Adams hopes to instill a growing idea of what our Catholic faith is and means for these young boys. She adds, “Over the next few years, I work hard to teach them all about our Catholic Faith and that simple kindness to others is God working in them.  By the time they’re in 4th grade, my hope is that they pray beautifully and have the most beautiful relationship with God, founded in their Catholic Faith.”

On the main campus, Theology Department chair and Junior Theology teacher, Ms. Kass says, “I’m glad the students get to have religion as a regular part of the school schedule. Time for prayer and learning about God is the heart of a Catholic school. Without it – we’d lose our very identity. I also think our theology department finds a good balance between contemplation of God in prayer and the rigorous study of God through the intellectual pursuit of theology. The more we study and know God, the more we can grow to love and serve Him.”

The Theology department is very important to the whole school experience, from the primary level to the high school level, and the teachers in it are here to help each student find their inspiration and grow into an HC man. They’re uplifting and provide guidance when it comes to a student’s faith and what they’ve yet to learn in regards to the Catholic religion. "The Holy Cross Man is a refined gentlemen who lives by faith;" and that is precisely what the theology teachers hope to instill.
