Why is Holy Cross the Best School?

With Open House approaching, The Bulletin wanted to reach out to see why students and faculty members have chosen Holy Cross as their family over other institutions.

Our first source is Senior and Student Council member, Cruz Perez. His response was, "Holy Cross is the greatest school because as a member of the catholic church and through the teachings of Father Meraux, we are a school focused on brotherhood and equality. Holy Cross doesn’t attempt to garner as many students as possible but instead, focuses on developing a maximum of 1,000 young men in both mind and heart. At Holy Cross we provide a personal experience for the students and give them all the means to succeed and praise as a result of their hard work. Holy Cross focuses on the student not just the members unlike other massive schools.

Our second interview was with veteran faculty member and Drama Coordinator, Ms. Baisier. When asked why she chose Holy Cross, Ms. B said, "Because of its age and all the things it has survived since 1840. It never looses its spirit and it keeps track of its history. And we build wonderful young men. Holy Cross men are the good guys, and I love having a part in their lives. It’s a happy place and the students are always happy to be here. And that makes everything enjoyable."

Senior and student council member, Mitch Riera said, "Holy Cross is the best school because it’s the only school in New Orleans that you can call an actual second home. And it's the only school where your son is going to be surrounded by family."

Senior football player, Aiden Patcheco, said, "Holy Cross is the best school because it prepares you for life beyond school. Everyday that your at Holy Cross you are surrounded by brothers that will always have your back ,and you will only find that at Holy Cross."

Our final source is senior William Schatz. When asked why he thought Holy Cross is the best school, he said, "While most schools highlight their academic achievements and strive to achieve the best standardized test score, Holy Cross offers, additionally, a special familial bond found at no other school. Instead of viewing your peers as mere classmates, HC establishes a strong sense of brotherhood that emanates throughout all grade levels."

Whether you are starting in preschool or finishing your high school career as a senior, each of your classmates, your  brothers, support you every step of the way as if they were true family. Holy Cross provides every student an opportunity to be involved in the family. The faculty and staff also serve the best interests of the student body providing more than just notes and tests to take in class. Teachers at Holy Cross are key to the familial bond of the school sharing life lessons similar to those even a parent might provide.

Overall, Holy Cross is a family more than it is a school forming a strong brotherhood among its students while also paving the way for young boys to become men by the time they exit leaving a lasting impact.
