During this virus, the 2020 Holy Cross High school football season in Louisiana has pushed back the start date to play for October, at the earliest. In other states such as Alabama, Texas, Ohio, and California high school football is played every week. The high school football coaches in the state of Louisiana are furious with our governor and the state of Louisiana. Coronavirus has affected Louisiana as a whole; some players are depending on this season and must watch other schools play but not themselves. The athletes and fans of New Orleans, specifically, urge Louisiana officials to let high school football players play.
The CDC reports and athletic associations across the country clearly prove that the virus is not as bad as the media is making it seem, 0.04% mortality rate, overall, and zero cases actually stemming from football practices or workouts. The young athletes and frustrated football coaches want to play the game they enjoy and love.
Holy Cross Football Head Coach Nick Saltaformaggio says, “Will the lies about this scam ever end?” The anger and disappoint across the state is growing due to the limiting restrictions on sports. Teammate and Safety, Kolbe Cage, ‘21 says, “Dealing with the coronavirus is very frustrating.” He tells me that although he has scholarships that the season was his opportunity to get more scholarships and accomplish more things. Other members of the football team are also counting on this football season to get them scholarship offers and to achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
An answer about the football season for High School Football in Louisiana should be arising to the surface soon from local officials. Athletes and coaches everywhere are eagerly anticipating this decision. Will we have a football season this year? Our fingers are cross here at HC.
