Senioritis: The Struggle is Real

Senioritis is something that can be detrimental to a 12th grader’s experience in his final semester of high school. Senioritis usually causes a lack of focus and a lack of effort in the second semester of senior year. Senior year is about finishing strong and staying in tuned with the lessons being taught in and out of the classroom. Ways to ddo this include:

  1. Setting Goals - This can be setting and/or maintaining a certain grade point average. Or it could be a disciplinary goal such as avoiding detention and other punishments that could blemish your record going into college.
  2. Finding motivation and incentive -- A great way to stay motivated is a reward system whether it’s coming from yourself or from outside sources. You can reward yourself for performing well in the classroom. Some rewards could even be scholarship money toward college, even if just as mall amount, is a great reward to reap for such an expensive venture.
  3. Understanding what is at stake – Coming to the realization that you are on the cusp of adulthood should excite and scare you at the same time. It’s not just a grade or a weekend social life that is at stake. It’s the next step to your future.

Obviously, many seniors’ minds will check out as the year progresses. Many seniors will want to have fun more than they want to do work in senior year, which is understandable. Although senior year is supposed to be a fun time, it is still important for students to keep working hard and taking the necessary measures that will put them in a good position going into their freshmen year of college. Once you get that diploma, then the relaxation can start. Senior, Steven Kitto said, “I have been here too long, and I am just ready for the Disney Trip so that I can finally relax my mind.” The seniors all around Holy Cross are looking to enjoy their last months as tigers and move on with their young and opportunistic lives. But first things first, finish strong!!!
