Remembering Kobe

Many people know Kobe Bryant for his ridiculous fadeaway jump shot or even his ability to dunk all over opposing defenders. These abilities are not even a fraction of who Bryant was as a human being. Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter, Gianna passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on Sunday along with several others who did not survive. The untimely deaths of Gianna and Kobe shocked the world, and urged everyone to hug their loved ones and express their love for one another because life is truly short. Bryant was a 5-time NBA champion, 17-time NBA All-Star, 11-time 1st Team All-NBA performer, as well as the 2007-08 NBA MVP. His drive and will to win is what set him apart from other superstars. He inspired so many to follow their dreams, it is almost surreal that he is not here anymore. His illustrious career cemented him as one of the all-time greats to have ever picked up a basketball. Bryant advised others to love what they do, and he felt that if people love what they do, the sky is the limit as to where or how far they could take it. Millions of people around the world mourned Bryant’s death. He was more than just an athlete, and it shows in his actions off of the court as he sponsored countless charity events for the poor and homeless, including a foundation that he and his wife founded, The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation which is a youth development program that aids many young kids in the Southern California area.

Bryant’s death has affected many students such as junior Rory Askin who gave his thoughts on the tragedy. “Kobe has had a big impact on my life, and I look up to him, I still cannot believe that he is gone.” Senior Paul Johnson was at a loss of words when asked about the tragedy. He said “I still cannot believe that he is gone.” Bryant’s influence on this world will never go away, as his career on and off the court is unmatched by any other. Kobe Bryant’s legacy will live on forever. We love you Kobe “Bean” Bryant. Rest in Peace.
