Career Day is a day that provides students to be able to select and learn about a possible career interest that they may have. Holy Cross has given its students this opportunity every year; however, it has not been done since the 2017-2018 school year, and it brings up the question: What happened to Career Day? When asked why, Dr. Wegmann replied, “There are a lot of things we have going on during the school year. Many things pop up and have to replace some of the slightly lower-placed events. We still want students to take a keen interest and get an idea and learn about what they want as an occupation, but sometimes things just pop up that we have no choice.” It is understandable that this would be the case and does provide some clear insight as to why Career Day made its disappearance. However, Career Day has been missed by many students at Holy Cross. “My first year here was the last time I did it, and it’s really a shame that its been put away. I enjoyed the classes given for the day that I could get an idea and learn about some of the possible jobs that I may want,” comments junior, Dylan DiMaggio. This does just go to show that Career Day has been missed and although its mysterious disappearance has been discovered, the students here at Holy Cross enjoyed the unique day where they could take a brief break from the general school topics and subjects and get a chance to learn about possible interests of what they may want to do with their lives. However, it must be looked at from a realistic standpoint that some things are out of Guidance’s control. Although Career Day is absent for the time being, students should still show an interest in what they may want to do occupation-wise in their lives. It’s absence should not stop students from being motivated to learn about what they want to do with their lives, and we hope that Career day can make a possible return.
