The Rivalry Rally

On October 4, the Holy Cross Tigers took on the Jesuit Blue Jays in the 100th meeting between the two teams. This rivalry is the most notorious in the state. Alumni and fans who support the school come out to this game specifically to support their Tigers and be a part of the tradition. The entire week had eventful and exciting events beginning with a Big Man Race all the way to an Oreo eating contest between both students and teachers. However, the best way to get the football teams and the student body pumped up was no other than a good old-fashioned pep rally. As described by junior linebacker Aiden Patcheco, “Pep rallies help both us and the whole school get ready for an important night especially this one against Jesuit which we need to win.” The pep rally started with the senior class running out in a variety of different costumes. This act was the best way to kick off arguably the biggest pep rally in school history. After the seniors ran out, the football team was introduced with the seniors introduced, individually and presented with gifts from their cheerleader buddies. After a crowd-pleasing performance by the national championship dance team, the Carmelettes, the seniors played a competitive game of dodge ball against the faculty and staff in which the seniors won by a land slide. To conclude the pep rally, the whole school cheered the famous chant “T-T-TIG-E-E-ERS! TIG-ERS! TIIIIGERS!” Jill Miester, High School Assistant, stated “The students were very excited about the game and I believe it helped the football team get prepared.” As the pep rally came to a close, the entire school traditionally sang the famous fight song followed by the alma mater. As the final bell rung to end school, the students and fans headed to the tailgate to eat and enjoy the festivities before the game. The next pep rally for the Tigers is for their Homecoming game against Warren Easton on Friday. Go Tigers!
