Friday’s pep rally for the 50th meeting of the Chalmette High vs. Holy Cross rivalry football game was one of the most lively in years. The pep rally was kicked off with a storming of the court by the 2020 senior class. Their thunderous charge shook the student center to its core and lifted spirits in the Gym. The pep rally was proceeded with an intimidating parade through the gym by our varsity football team. As they sat down on the bleachers their Primary school fans bolstering numerous handcrafted signs cheered them on. After traditional chants, some hilariously fun competitions held between teachers and students kicked off. Games of “trashketball” between students and teachers lead to overwhelming uproars from students in both middle and high school. All of the rowdiness and horseplay culminated to the most significant event of the evening. Who would go home with a clean and naked face? Would it be Coach Toepfer or Coach Sines? As a result of a quick basketball shooting competition and a rigorous arm-wrestling match between the two, Coach Sines rose out of the ashes like a phoenix, winning the match and enabling him to keep his beard. As a result, what appeared to be the entire junior class stormed the court in celebration hugging and chanting for Coach Sines. However, Coach Toepfer received the short end of the stick having his beard cut clean off for the whole student body to see. As Coach Toepfer and Sines stepped off the court, the Holy Cross Cheerleaders hopped right on to give yet another amazing performance. To close off the rally we continued our tradition of singing the alma mater as an entire student body. Then, everyone departed for the game at Chalmette High School, where we shut down the Owls 35-10 with a beast-like performance from Junior QB John Wootton, Junior WR Jalen Johnson and Senior RB Celvin Sullivan. It was another successful week on behalf of the Holy Cross football team. We are HC!
