Cafeteria Appreciation

By Zachary Landry

When you think of the Holy Cross faculty and staff you think of the teachers, coaches, counselors, and administrators. All of these people are greatly appreciated by the students, but there are positions of our staff who are greatly unappreciated and looked over. This would be the members and workers of the cafeteria. The company that caters for the cafeteria is called Valley. Valley manages and caters the cafeteria with nutritious options for students to choose. The members of Valley work extremely hard to give the students the best cafeteria experience possible. The head of the cafeteria staff is Jeffery Rhodes. He manages the lunch lines, orders the food, and makes sure everything is in line and ready to go for lunch. He does a lot for the students so that they can buy and eat lunch within a reasonable time. He and his staff are very underappreciated. Some students believe he can be mean and unfair, but in reality, he is just trying to make sure that lunch is being run efficiently. Some students, however, believe Jefferey does a lot for the Cafeteria. Senior Jonathan Lonker states, “Mr. Jeff runs the lunch line like a well-oiled machine.” Take this into perspective, how would you like to be in charge of 1,000 kids at their most hyper and hungriest time a day, every single day? It makes you think. The cafeteria is a place where students can eat and socialize with their friends during school. This is important for the students because everyone needs a break from a long day of learning. Also having time to eat is important because the food you eat will give you the energy to succeed and finish the day. The cafeteria workers are key to for the students to have the best lunch experience possible. Students don’t realize how much goes into making sure of that. On behalf of the student body, I’d like to thank you, Mr. Jeff, for all that you do for the students!
