Debaters Qualify for National Championship

The Brother Aiden O’Reilly, C.S.C. Debating Society had another successful weekend at the Louisiana District Tournament. A number of students advanced far enough to qualify for the National Speech and Debate Association’s national championship, held in Dallas, Texas.

Seniors Austin Wyman and Mason Wallace qualified in Public Forum Debate. Senior Blake Ziegler qualified in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, International Extemporaneous Speaking, and the Senate. Ziegler also received the District Student of the Year Award, and was recognized for having the fifth-most overall points in Louisiana. Additionally, the team received third overall sweepstakes.

Wyman and Wallace will represent Louisiana in Public Forum Debate, and Ziegler will compete in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. The team looks forward to building on this momentum as they wrap up the season at the state championship in two weeks.
