This past weekend the Holy Cross Tiger Marching Band marched down St. Charles in two parades, the Krewe of Pygmalion and the Krewe of King Arthur. Marching in Mardi Gras parades is an annual occurrence for the Holy Cross Tiger Band, as they represent our school well each year. Talking to Tiger Band Drum Major Josh Lizama he said, “Marching in Mardi Gras parades are always exciting and enjoyable!” Josh is a five year Tiger Band Veteran, when asked about his favorite part of the parades he said, “I love to see the enjoyment of the crowds when the music is playing, and it is never boring because every few blocks we play for an entirely different audience.” Talking to another marching band veteran, Senior Gabe Rinehart commented, “Parades can be the highlight of a marching band it is about enjoying your time with your band friends and having this amazing experience.” It is unique to our New Orleanian culture to have high school bands march annually in Mardi Gras parades, in no other place around the country does a school band have this chance to be a part of a Mardi Gras parade. If you missed the Tiger Band this past weekend, it is not too late to see the Holy Cross Band march its way down the parade route, you can catch the band marching down the Uptown route this Friday night in the Krewe of Hermes, and again this Sunday in the Krewe of Thoth. As you see them make their way down the street, keep your ears open to hear the Holy Cross Fight Song, along with other great music from our school’s very own band. Don’t miss it!
