Holy Cross Students Receive Honors in GNO Science and Engineering Fair

The Holy Cross Science department would like to congratulate and recognize all the students who competed in the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering Fair at Tulane University on February 19 and 20.

The following eighth grade students competed in the junior division of the GNOSEF: team of Stephen Treadaway and Steve Volpi, Brody Calamusa, Joseph Simon, team of Ethan Boyd and Aidan Anthaume, Lathan Naquin, Braden Prince, Cooper Couvillion, Nicklas Bee, Ivan Ivanov, Tristan Rouselle, Bryce Corcoran, Garrett Cantrelle, Justus Woodward and Gabriel Falgoust.

The following high school students competed in the senior division of the GNOSEF: Zachary Fuller, Colby Brown, the team of Tobias Fabregas & Robert Spampneto, Vincent Bourgeois, the team of James DiGiovanni and Ian Silva, Kyler VanCamp, Carlos Castellanos-Garces, Joshua Orr, Ethan Acosta, Evan Jones, Derrick Martin, Ethan Prunty, and the team of Evan Autin and Robert Schexnayder.

Holy Cross students took home the following awards in the junior division:

  • Stephen Treadaway & Steve Volpi competed in the category of Engineering Mechanics and was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. (2nd place) (teacher: Tara Lavender).
  • Brody Calamusa took 2nd place in the category of Animal Sciences and qualified to advance to the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF) (teacher: Tara Lavender).
  • Joseph Simon took 4th place in the category of Engineering Mechanics and was also recognized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics- GNO section (AIAA). (teacher: Tara Lavender)
  • Ethan Boyd and Aidan Anthaume took home 3rd place in the category of Medicine and Health and qualified as an alternate for the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF). (teacher: Tara Lavender)
  • Mrs. Tara Lavender was recognized by the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers for her role as Stephen Treadaway and Steve Volpi’s sponsor for their project on which bridge design holds the most weight.

Holy Cross students took home the following awards in the senior division:

  • Colby Brown (11th grade) competed in the category of Environmental Engineering and was recognized by the American Meteorological Society (AMS). He was also recognized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). (teacher: Dr. Katherine Schilling)
  • Zachary Fuller (11th grade) took 3rd place in the category of Energy: Physical and qualified as an alternate for the Louisiana State Fair (LSEF). (teacher: David Westfall)
  • Robby Spampneto (11th grade) and Tobias Fabregas (11th grade) competed in the Chemistry category and was recognized by the American Meteorological Society (AMS). (teacher: David Westfall)
  • Holy Cross School received the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation School Grant for entering more than 10 projects in the GNOSEF.
