Faculty Spotlight: Molly Whittington, Math Teacher - Advanced Math/Trigonometry, CP and Honors, and Calculus, Honors and AP
Where did you go to college? What is your degree(s) or field of study?
I attended the University of New Orleans, and received a BS and an MS in Mathematics.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
Getting to experience moments of revelation with my students. I have long said there is no better feeling than finally understanding a mathematical concept, except the feeling that comes from helping someone else understand.
How long have you been working for Holy Cross School?
I joined Holy Cross in August of this year.
What is one thing that you think makes Holy Cross School a special place?
The people. Since I began teaching here, I have felt such a sense of community. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful, and it has been wonderful to be welcomed so warmly.
Tell us about your favorite memory from your time teaching at Holy Cross School?
The first pep rally I attended. I don’t remember who we were playing, but I loved how much effort the students put into their skit. There was a pirogue, and some graffitiing bad guys, and Thunder the Tiger saved the day. It was hilarious.
Tell us about your teaching philosophy.
I believe the classroom should be a laid-back environment that fosters questions and discussion. I try not to take myself too seriously, but to have fun with the material in an attempt to inspire enthusiasm in my students. Math is a difficult area for many people, and I believe that a friendly approach, a lot of the time, is the key to success.
