Cross Raising Ceremony
By: Kerry Williams
On Friday, April 24, 2009, Holy Cross School gathered on the neutral ground on
Paris Avenue to witness a very important milestone in the HC construction
process. The cross from the former St. Frances Cabrini Church was placed on the
tower of our administration building. Members of the New Orleans City
Council along with Archbishop Alfred Hughes accompanied Mr. DiGange and the rest
of Holy Cross School in this wonderful event. The Cross stands tall on top
of our campus! The cross was blessed by the Archbishop and everyone joined Ms. Hotard in singing “Lift High the Cross.” The Ceremony was very nice.
If you missed the ceremony click here for pictures.

Tiger Cheerleaders Named "Grand Champions"Over the weekend, the Holy Cross Cheerleaders traveled to the annual Jamfest Cheer competition in Biloxi, MS to compete against the Jesuit Blue Jays in the level 5 co-ed varsity cheer division (an entire level higher than what we've typically competed). With a final score of 8.134, Holy Cross placed first, above Jesuit, by a landslide. Not only did our squad place first in their division, but received the title of "Grand Champions" for being the best out of all level 5 squads and was also awarded "Jam Champions" for having the highest score and best performance over the entire competition (all levels 1-5). Because of our overall performance and lasting impression, Holy Cross also received a bid to compete in nationals! This is a GREAT honor! Our squad had a scare last week with a broken nose and almost had to drop out of the competition, but we pulled together, changed the routine, and performed the best I had ever seen. Please congratulate Matthew Zada, Brett Russo, and Michael Steigler for working SO hard and doing such a great job.

*Thank you to everyone who attended our clinics and tried out for the team this year. We saw some amazing talent and encourage everyone who did not make the squad, to come back next year. If you have any questions about your particular tryout and score, we will be more than willing to let you know of any improvements that we think can be made to come back next year and try out. Please email Miss Haase at jhaase@holycrosstigers.com or Miss Watson at jwatson@holycrosstigers.com for inquiries.

Grandparents Visit HC
By: Kerry Williams
On Friday, April 3, 2009, Holy Cross had a mass dedicated to our Grandparents. The whole school gathered under the Oaks with their grandparents. Everyone looked liked they enjoyed the mass despite the fact that it was muddy because of the recent rain. Photographer Pat Garin was on campus to take pictures of the grandparents with the grandsons. The whole event was nice! I think everyone is looking forward to viewing those pictures!

Chorus ExcelsCongratulations to the 6th grade Chorus members for a great job at the LMEA Festival. They are the first group to represent Holy Cross at LMEA's Large Ensemble Choral Festival since Katrina. They sang and performed to the absolute best of their ability. They are all very proud of themselves, as they should be. Overall, they received a rating of II or "Excellent".
Holy Cross music and drama students were visited by local barbershop quartet "Southern Tradition" on Monday, March 23rd. The quartet demonstrated and explained the basics of barbershop harmony. Students learned to sing the traditional song "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" in four part harmony as part of the presentation. |
