Robotics is the machine automation of motion. The Holy Cross Robotics Team will be designing a robot to compete in a game designed by the BEST Robotics non-profit corporation.

The team traveled to Mississippi State University September 29 and 30, 2006 where they  learned about the game, and got their parts such as metal plastic wood, motors, servos, controllers, and batteries. Once they learn about the game, they have six weeks from that date to make a robot to compete against other schools at Mississippi State on November 10-12. The top three or four teams will go to Auburn University for the finals. Around 60 schools from around the United States will go head-to-head or robot-to-robot.

For the second year, the team is coached by Mr. Lasserre, Holy Cross School computer and journalism teacher. Mrs. Billings, Middle School Principal and Director of Studies, is the team moderator. Head mentor is Doug Eiserloh of BellSouth, father of Paul Eiserloh, '11 who is a returning team leader.

Membership is open through September 25. Information is available in room 201.

ROBOTICS

The Holy Cross Robotics Team is an award winning extracurricular activity focusing on the automation of motion. Holy Cross School is an active member of the South's BEST Robotics region. South's BEST is host to over 200 schools in 13 states east of the Mississippi River. BEST Robotics Inc. conducts an annual robotics competition in the first semester. At the end of the season, the best 25% of the schools compete at the championship at Auburn University. Holy Cross competes at Mississippi State University games in November and the best from this hub advances to the championship. Holy Cross has advanced to the championship games at Auburn every year since 2004.

The University of South Alabama is starting a LEGO Robotics League. Holy Cross School plans to participate in LEGO Robotics during the second semester.

Mark Lasserre is robotics coach. Mrs. Billings is team moderator. Doug Eiserloh is head mentor. The team's Web site is http://www.tigerbotz.com/.

RoboTIGERS Finish Second in the Nation

The Holy Cross Robotics Team finished second in the Final Four championship at Auburn University BEST Robotics Games, Saturday, December 9, 2006. The Tigers placed third in the preliminary rounds to advance to the Sweet 16. The RoboTigers placed fourth in the semi-finals to advance to the Final Four. The team finished the season second to a team from Michigan. The RoboTigers started the trek to the championship in August 2006 along with over 240 teams from east of the Mississippi River. Holy Cross won the Mississippi State University games in November 2006 to advance to Auburn University along with 43 other teams from across the nation. Captains for the Tigers Robotics Team are Adam Feola and original member Paul Eiserloh. Other drivers for the team are Kyle Schreiner and Rainey Lyons. The lead spotter was Mark Lasserre, Jr., another member of the 2004 team. Steven Landry, Drake Stansberry and Nick Gale are also members of the 2006 championship team. The team is coached by computer teacher Mark Lasserre and head mentor Doug Eiserloh. Mrs. Billings is the team moderator. The RoboTigers also won a special award for elegant robotic design at the Auburn games.
