Greetings to all Holy Cross Middle School faculty and students. I have returned to Holy Cross School this year after being  gone because of Hurricane Katrina. I want all of you to know that I am glad that I can help expand the middle school page, and help provide more detail about middle school events. The web team will bring you useful important information.

2008 T-MOBILE ALLSTAR GAME

by. Kerry Williams, Middle School Editor

Holy Cross Middle School students attended the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam on Friday, February 15, 2008 as part of the NBA's All-Star Game festivities. The game featured second year NBA players (Sophmores) against this year's Rookie All-Stars. The Sophomore All-Stars won by 20 points, but was very entertaining regardless of the score. The half-time show was just as entertaining as some of the HC Middle School students were able to sing with 2007 American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks. Joining Jordin Sparks was Ne-yo and High School Musical's, Corbin Bleu.  In addition, several NBA team mascots kept the crowd into the evening as they jumped on a trampoline and flipped to shoot the ball. Other breaks in the game provided a chance to answer music trivia.

The night was wonderful, and the HC Middle School Students would like to thank Coach Lumas for setting the whole thing up. Unfortunately, Coach Lumas could not be there because the Tigers were in action, but I am sure that he would've loved to be there. We would also like to thank our parent chaperones for doing a great job, as well as the faculty chaperones including:  Mr. Lassere, Coach Andy, and Mr. John Star.

This event was a great success, and the middle school looks forward to more events like this.

Battle of New Orleans Field Trip

By. Kerry Williams, Middle School Editor

On Friday, January 11, 2008 the eighth graders went to the Chalmette Battle Field. On this field in 1812, the British and New Orleanians were at war. The British were determined to take the City from us but we knew we would protect New Orleans with all our might. The British sailed up the Mississippi River until it was too narrow for their ship to fit. So, they had to take their supplies off of their ship and load it in the marsh where it got stuck in the mud. On the other side of the wall, the New Orleanians had their supplies on wood so it would not sink into the mud. The New Orleanians had an advantage over the British as they stood in one spot, however the British were in an open marsh field.  In the end, the New Orleanians won the war.

We would like to thank our Chaperons: Mrs. Schoen, Mrs. Patin, and Coach Ellzey. We also thank our eighth grade class moderator, Mr. Heller, and our Principal, Mrs. Billings, for making it possible to go on this trip.

Crux Spes Unica
By: Kerry Williams, Middle School Editor

Have you ever wondered what the words "Crux Spes Unica" printed below the Holy Cross insignia mean? Parents and other people around the city have asked me what the words mean, and when
I couldn't answer them I was sort of -- well embarassed. So, I set out to find the meaning
of the words that were so foreign to me. "Crux Spes Unica" means "the cross is our only hope." When
I found out what the words meant, I understood how the phrase fit with our school's mission. So
the next time someone asks, "what do those words mean", answer proudly "the cross is our only hope" like a confident "Holy Cross Man"!!!
