Announcements for 11/17/2017
Posted by: Holy Cross Announcements on 11/17/2017

Attention all 5th - 12th graders... anyone interested in joining the track team should see either Coach Brodie (in the coach's office in the football locker room) or Coach Sines.

Attention all 8th-12th grade students... Homecoming pictures are in and can be picked up in the Student Activities Office before school, during Nutrition break, lunch and after school. Please do not remove all of the pictures from the box and only take your pictures.

Attention all students... on Tuesday, December 12th instead of having the Activity and Formation Period, we will be on an afternoon assembly schedule to allow us the time to host the annual Christmas Pageant with performances by the band and chorus. Also, to celebrate the day, it will be an "Ugly Christmas Sweater Day" so everyone is allowed to wear a traditional ugly Christmas sweater with the rest of their regulation school uniform. Sweaters must be appropriate! See Mr. Ferry for more details.

Attention anyone interested in joining the AV team, please see Mr. Ferry in the Student Activities Office. The AV team is responsible for all video announcements and PA announcements, school videos, pictures, Jumbotron work such as at masses and basketball games, developing the school film and many other things. If you are interested in working with video cameras and being creative, join today. And it is a great way to make new friends and be involved.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Well, maybe not yet but it is almost that time. And because it is almost Christmas time, start decorating your homerooms and office windows and doors NOW for the annual Christmas Door Decorating Contest. If you recall, every year for the past few years, we have asked the faculty and staff to help make the Christmas spirit come alive on campus by decorating their classroom doors and windows. Like with the spirit signs, this is one small way that we can foster a level of excitement for our students when coming to school. Therefore, over the next couple of weeks, plan out (with your homerooms) a creative, festive and fun Christmas display. The winning homeroom will receive a pizza party and second place receives a candy party. The winning office will receive a catered lunch sponsored by Student Council. There will be two separate contest – one for classrooms and one for the offices. All displays should be up the week we return from Thanksgiving. BRAGGING RIGHTS ARE ALSO ON THE LINE!

Turkeys aren't just great for Thanksgiving! Come join the state qualifying Bowling Team and see what we mean. Tryouts are the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, November 29, from 3:30 to 5:00 at All Star Lanes in Kenner. Tryouts are open for students in 8th-12th Grade, and all experience levels are welcome! You can find Mrs. Garrett in M210 for more information or directions.

Tiger Cross Country raced to a 4th place finish in the State Championship Meet. This is the highest finish for Tiger Cross Country in the 5A division in nearly 30 years. This historic accomplishment has been in the works for years, and required innumerable Tastee donuts, thousands of miles of running, and turgid clouds of rage. Blake Baldassaro and Adam Sequiera both finished in the top 20 in state, Cade Martin and Chris Wagner were 24th and 29th, and Josh Raiford rounded out the scoring 5 in 48th. Clear the way for the prophets of rage!

Congratulations to all students accepted into the District Honor Choirs. Please report to the lobby of the Admin building after homeroom for a picture.

Come to City Park and support your favorite team of weirdos. Tiger Cross Country is the James Brown of the Catholic League, The Greatest Show on Earth, the ones who knock, the Fighting Uruk-Hai. Today, the heavens will shake, and Tastee donuts will rain from the sky and trumpets will blare in strange and sickening keys. Hide the women and children! Call a priest! Tiger Cross Country competed in the District 9-5A championships yesterday and came away with a 2nd place finish - under intense pressure from a fit and focused pack of Tigers, Brother Martin squeaked away with the win. The crusaders are queasy, their knees knock together in fits of fear as the hot, fetid breath of Tigers breathe down their neck. We are very, very close. Top finishers for Holy Cross were Cade Martin, Blake Baldassaro, Adam Sequeira, Chis Wagner, and Trent Terminie. Your Middle School squad, the baby-faced death eaters took 4th in the 5&6th grade division and 2nd in the 7&8th grade division. Rage Baldassaro took the gold for 5&6th grades, leaving the lamentations of the defeated in his wake. Today is the day of the District Championship for your Tiger Cross Country team. The Varsity team AKA the fighting Uruk-hai AKA the ones who knock AKA the prophets of rage will scream surfer noises and consume multitudes of Tastee donuts. Look outside Tigers, look out the window. LOOK OUT THE WINDOW. Do you see the gathering clouds of foreboding, the towering columns of woe? The heart is a lonely hunter, and the interior of the Tiger Cross Country Team is an unfillable chasm, a pit of despair that can only be filled with the brass of championship trophies. Varsity will race at 4:45 at City Park. Come witness history. Come run with the Tigers.

Congratulations to the Holy Cross Middle School swim team on their 4th place overall finish in the Greater New Orleans Metro Swim League. The tigers were led by Aidan Anthaume, Stephen Campbell, Landon Crescioni, Paul Guilford, Ivan Ivanov, Drew Launey, Phillip O'Sullivan, Rudy Toranto, and Justus Woodward.

Who runs so fast they break the timing system for the Louisiana Governor's Games? The Middle School Cross Country team, the baby-faced death eaters, that's who. Lightning Liuzza placed second and Vortex Volpe placed fifth, with Rage Baldassaro, Wheels Sanderson, and Landon "Game-face" Davis close behind, all piling up in the finish chute so fast that the timing system broke and they threw out the results! The officials cited "technical difficulties" but we know the truth - Tigers are just too scary to handle. In the Junior High race, Lyric Lee placed second overall with a vicious finishing kick, and DJ Scott and Josh Atkins continue to improve. Next up for your middle school team is the Jack Schommer Invitational on 10/21. The Varsity team is still deep in the woods - their whereabouts are unknown and their methods are strange and terrifying. They will emerge just in time for the Catholic League District Championship on Wednesday 10/25. Go Tigers!!

Who outruns hurricanes to flood municipal parks with sweat and the malodorous fumes of woe? Tiger Cross Country, who placed 2nd at the Catholic High Invitational. Blake Baldassaro and Cade Martin cracked the top 10 of the race, with Josh Raiford, Chris Wagner, and Teo Monthey following swiftly behind. Middle School Cross Country practice is cancelled today.

Tiger Cross Country emerged from their three-week vision quest to the Serengeti, clad in capes and half-tights of lion skins. Holy Cross defeated defending state champion St. Paul's and rival Brother Martin on Saturday at City Park, placing our top 6 runners in the top 20 of the race. Around 11am on Saturday, the sky grew dark and the sound of raging thunderheads boomed in the distance, the portents of greater powers at work, the harbingers of MRSA. In the middle school division, the babyfaced death-eaters placed 2nd overall, with Lightning Liuzza winning the race, Rage Baldassaro placing 2nd, and Vortex Volpe finishing 7th. In the Junior High Division, Lyric Lee aka Lyric take the wheel aka angel of God my guardian dear aka TIME person of the year aka blond hair don't care continued his successful season placing 6th against the best young runners in the area. This will be a season to remember, a season for the sound of surfer dudes from SpongeBob to echo from every meadhall. Go Tigers!
