Maniac Monday!

Aaron Rodgers was all too familiar with living in the shadows of football god Brett Favre. When the future Hall-of-Famer signed with the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers was 9-years-old. While Brett Favre led the Packers for sixteen years, (taking the Packers to two Super Bowls and winning three consecutive MVP awards), Aaron Rodgers was still in high school. When Rodgers signed with the Packers in 2005, he would sit on the bench for three years playing a total of seven games. Finally, in 2008, Favre ended up at the Jets and Aaron Rodgers got his chance. In that season, he completed 341 passes for 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns. In 2009, his stats improved: 350 passes, for 4,434 yards and 30 touchdowns. For the last two seasons, the Packers have flown under the radar in the NFL. But now, thanks to Aaron Rodgers’s increasingly impressive performance, they are shining bright and are the team to beat.
Rodgers demonstrated his precision in last week’s playoff win against the 13-3 Falcons. Matt Ryan (a.k.a. Matty Ice) led the Falcons to be NFC South Division champs and to finish the regular season with the best record in the NFC. The Green Bay Packers came to the Georgia Dome and proved to all of the fans of Atlanta that their beloved Matty Ice wasn’t as good as they thought. The Green Bay defense shut down Ryan, holding him to 186 passing yards and one touchdown. He was picked off twice and one interception was returned for a 70-yard touchdown. The Packers defense was dominant, and Aaron Rodgers held up his end. He threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns, also running for thirteen yards including one touchdown. In the spotlight, Aaron Rodgers showed world class skill and I am not alone in thinking that the Packers will make it to the Super Bowl.
Rodgers is my pick for the MVP award and the Green Bay Packers are my choice for Super Bowl XLV. The Packers are unstoppable and they will prove that in the NFC Championship with a win over the Chicago Bears. My prediction is the Packers 24 – 10.
I hope to see you back on Wednesday. Staying on the NFL, I will recap Brett Favre’s tragic downfall since deciding to prove that he had one more year in him.
