Holy Cross School Celebrates 169th Commencement

The Holy Cross School Class of 2018 celebrated its Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement with 160 students receiving diplomas on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Diplomas were conferred by Sean P. Martin ’92, headmaster, and Dr. Joseph H. Murry, Jr., principal. Rev. Jonathan P. Hemelt celebrated a Baccalaureate Mass held the evening before at St. Dominic Catholic Church.

Together, the class earned $16,095,410 in college scholarships and received admission offers from 93 universities throughout the United States, including military appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The Valedictorian is Joseph Girardot, and the Salutatorian is Alexander Tedesco. Girardot gave an address during the Commencement ceremony, and Tedesco gave an address at the Baccalaureate Mass, along with Student Body President Brandon Dillon.

Girardot, son of David Girardot and Heidi Girardot, will attend Tulane University, where he received a Presidential Scholars Award. He plans to major in English and Film Studies. At Holy Cross, Girardot was the recipient of the Silver Medallion Award for Excellence in Foreign Language and was a graduate of the Brother James McDonnell, C.S. C. Scholars Program.

Tedesco, son of Todd Tedesco and Kimberly Tedesco, will attend Duke University, where he will major in Biological Sciences. At Holy Cross, Tedesco was the recipient of the Silver Medallion Award for Excellence in Mathematics and was a graduate of the Brother James McDonnell, C.S. C. Scholars Program.

The event marked the 169th commencement of Holy Cross School, which was founded in 1849.
