Journalism Department

Journalism

The Holy Cross journalism course is taught by Mr. Scott Simpson, and is home to the school's newspaper, The Bulletin, which was founded in 1922. The journalism student writes news and feature content for the school newspaper and for other demands of the course. He follows the journalist's axiom "who, what, where, when and why" in writing this content. Personal computer proficiency through applications like Microsoft Word, Paint Shop Pro and Adobe PageMaker is expected during the course. The student has an understanding of the components and function of the personal computer. Journalism students use the Internet as a research tool and, therefore, will have an understanding of the use of the browser, World Wide Web search engines, uniform resource locators, and hyperlinks. The journalism student recognizes appropriate sources, how to cite sources for research through the Web and possesses the most efficient of browsing techniques. He uses the keyboard and digital camera in a proficient manner. The student creates eye-pleasing, professional layouts for the pages of the school newspaper.
