Connie Allterton (504)-252-9360

Middle School English, Brother Andre Service Society

Mrs. Allerton has been teaching for 27 years, the last thirteen spent at Holy Cross teaching middle school language arts. She earned a B.A. and an M.Ed. from the University of New Orleans. Mrs. Allerton is co-moderator of the Brother Andre Service Society, the middle school service organization. She is also heavily involved with the HC Cross Country and Track teams, first as the mother of two athletes, Classes of 2000 and 2003, and now as the faculty moderator for the cross country team. Mrs. Allerton is a native of New Orleans, married with two sons and two daughters. She also has three grandchildren.

Jerry Arnone

Director of Technology

Mr. Arnone joined Holy Cross in 2005. He has a BA in Business and holds the following Industry Certifications: CCNA, MCSE, MCP, CNA, CCA, A+, Security+, IT Project+, PMP, and Microsoft White, Green, and Blue Belts in Microsoft Project. Prior to coming to HC, Mr. Arnone spent over 20 years in the technology field working for Loblaw Intl, AT&T, and McDermott, Intl.

Byron Arthur

A.P. World History, American History, Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Quiz Bowl Moderator, and Yearbook

Mr. Arvites a 2004 graduate of Holy Cross. At Holy Cross he was a member of Student Council, Chorus, the Journalism Club, Quiz Bowl, and a member of the basketball team in which he was selected captain during his senior season. He attended college at the University of New Orleans where he served as editor of the school’s newspaper for two years. While in college Mr. Arvites worked for the Times-Picayune as a sports writer and at Holy Cross as the head 8th basketball coach. Currently he teaches American History and A.P. World History. Mr. Arvites also moderates the quiz bowl team. He is also serving as an assistant coach on the Varsity Basketball team and is the head coach for the JV team. This will be his fourth year teaching at Holy Cross.

Maria Baisier (504)-252-9362

English, Drama, Theatre Director

Maria Baisier is entering her fourth year as Chair of the Holy Cross Drama Department and she teaches Drama I, II, III, IV as well as English II Honors and English III Honors. Ms. Baisier received her BA in Theatre from Dominican College and her secondary certification in English at Tulane. She has been named twice to Who's Who Among America's Teachers (1996 and 2005), Who's Who in American Education, received the Octavia Levert Non-Fiction Writing Award, and was nominated to the USA Today All-Star Teacher team in 2006. In addition to teaching and directing theatre, Ms. Baisier is a published author of the book Pieces: Putting Life Back Together after Loss written under her pen name M.L. Davis. Three of her essays appear in the book Katrina: Mississippi Women Remember, and another appears in the book Southern Fried Farce. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society for Educators, Phi Beta International Honor Society for Actors, Loyola University Writing Workshop, and the Educational Theatre Association. Ms. Baisier is also the Troupe Director of Holy Cross School's International Thespian Society Troupe Number 7553.

Greg Battistella (504)-252-9363

9th &12th Grade Religion 10th-12th Speech Teacher, Head Baseball Coach

In his 13th year at Holy Cross, Mr. Battistella, better known as Coach Bat, is entering his seventh year as educator and fifth year as Head Coach of the baseball team. Mr. Battistella is a graduate Holy Cross School and the University of New Orleans with a degree in communications. While at UNO, Mr. Battistella was a four-year letterman on the UNO Privateer Baseball team. After playing collegiately, he played one season for the Springfield Pallies in Illinois. Most recently, Mr. Battistella was named District 94-A and All Metro Small Schools 2011 Coach of the Year.

Warren Bernard

Science Teacher, STEM Coordinator and Grants Researcher

Warren Bernard comes to Holy Cross with 32 years as an educator. A graduate of East Jefferson High School, he started his teaching career at St. Angela Merici in 1979, spent 12 years at Jesuit High School before moving to the metro-Atlanta area where he taught for 18 years, including 2 years as a Science Specialist with the GA Dept of Education. He completed a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, a M.A. degree in Science Teaching, all from the University of New Orleans, and a Ph.D. program at Georgia State University in Science Education. He has served as a Board member for the GA Science Teachers’ Association, a member of the Host Committee for the Atlanta 2008 International Science and Engineering Fair, and presented at many conferences on Science Education from the state to the international levels. He will be teaching High School Science and developing a student research program for grades 5-12.

Carlos Bertot

Religion

Mr. Bertot begins his second year teaching at Holy Cross. He will be teaching sophomore religion and eight grade PE this year. Coach Bertot also assists with the Holy Cross varsity wrestling program.

Frank Bileci (504)-252-9364

High School Religion

Mr. Bileci is entering his sixth year of teaching Religious Studies at Holy Cross School. He is a Brother Martin High School graduate. Mr. Bileci earned a Bachelor of Arts in World Religions with a minor in Mass Communications from Loyola University in New Orleans. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Catholic Theology from Notre Dame Seminary. Mr. Bileci is teaching Moral Theology this year to the entire junior class, preparing them not only to be useful citizens for society but also for eternal life. Additionally, he is the moderator of Film Club.

Teresa Billings

Director of Studies, Middle School Principal

Mrs. Billings has been a member of the Holy Cross family for fifteen years, and enters her 29th year in education. She is a graduate of Cabrini High School who earned her B.S. in Mathematics Education from St. Mary's Dominican College and a Masters of Arts & Sciences Teaching from the University of New Orleans. She is a member of the School Leadership Center, the National Middle School Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Kappa Delta Pi and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Mrs. Billings is the chair of the Holy Cross Institute Program Development Committee.

Cindy Bourque (504)-252-9366

Middle School Math

Cindy Bourque is in her 5th year teaching at Holy Cross, 26th year teaching. This year she teaches 7th grade Pre-Algebra and Accelerated Pre-Algebra and has a 7th grade homeroom. She enjoys planning the 7th grade field trips. After attending Archbishop Chapelle High School, she earned a degree in education from the University of New Orleans with a concentration in math. Mrs. Bourque lives in Metairie.

Tricia Bristow

Registrar

Mrs. Bristow has been with Holy Cross for over 27 years. As of October 2013 she has moved from the Finance Office into the Registrar's Office. She is a resident of Metairie, LA and a graduate of Riverdale High School. She has a son Berkley, who is in the class of 2013.

Mike Bujol

Athletic Director

Mr. Bujol begins his second year as Athletic Director at Holy Cross School. After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from Loyola University, Mike worked in the television industry at local stations, WDSU and WLAE. In 1982, he joined the UNO Athletic Department. While at UNO, Mr. Bujol held the positions of Sports Information Director, Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, Assistant Director of Marketing, Associate Athletic Director for Operations and Facilities, and Interim Director of Athletics. He has worked with various NCAA Tournaments and served as the Tournament Manager for an NCAA Baseball Regional, two NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Fours and two NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Fours. Mike lives in Old Metairie with his wife and two children.

Middle School and High School Mathematics

Mr. Carboni may no longer be actively coaching here at HC, but he will forever be known as "Coach" Carboni. Throughout his 32 years on the faculty and 39 years in teaching, Carboni, a native of New Orleans, has taught numerous math courses as well as being a long-time baseball coach. Math courses have included: Math for grades 5 through 7, Math 7 Accelerated, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I. His coaching career for the Tigers spanned a quarter century, and included being named the 1996 class 5-A Coach of the Year and a 1982 American Legion State Championship. Prior to arriving at Holy Cross back in 1981, Carboni was Head Baseball Coach at East St. John (1979-1980) and as an assistant at De La Salle (1975-1978), and St. John Prep (1973-1975). He played baseball for Mid-City Junior College (New Orleans) where he earned All-Conference and All-American Honorable Mention honors, before finishing his collegiate career at Loyola - New Orleans, playing for local coaching legend Louis "Rags" Scheuermann.

English Department Chair, English IV AP, English 7

In her fourth year at Holy Cross, Ms. Chabreck will serve as English department chair and will teach English IV Advanced Placement and seventh grade English. Before moving to the classroom in 2007, she worked for eight years as a private tutor, specializing in ACT preparation and Language Arts on the middle school, high school, and undergraduate levels. Ms. Chabreck attended Loyola University in New Orleans, where she double majored in English literature and music. She received her master’s degree in music from Louisiana State University. Ms. Chabreck is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English.

High School American History, Civics, Senior Class Moderator

"Coach Charb" enters his 25th year at Holy Cross, and serves as Social Studies teacher, and Senior Moderator. He brings 39 years of teaching experience to Holy Cross and currently teaches Civics, American History Honors, and Civics AP/Honors. Mr. Charboneau is a native of Schenectady, New York, and attended Linton High School before earning his B.S. from the State University College at Oneanta, New York and his Masters in Education from the University of New Orleans. In addition, he is a member of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers Association, and is a contibuting photographer to the HC website.

English I-H, English II, Prep Quiz Bowl, & Freshmen Moderator

In her third year on the Holy Cross faculty, Mrs. Clark will teach English I Honors, English II, co-moderate HC’s High School Quiz Bowl Team, and moderate Freshmen activities. Mrs. Clark, a 2000 graduate of Archbishop Hannan High, holds a B.A. in English from the University of New Orleans and is currently pursuing her Masters in Arts of Teaching. Although this is her third year as a Holy Cross faculty member, Mrs. Clark has strong Holy Cross family ties with her father (Gair Oldenburg ’76), husband (Timothy Clark ’99), brother (Erik Oldenburg ’06) and cousin (Michael Saitta ’99) all being proud Holy Cross Alum. Mrs. Clark & her husband Timmy, a Staff Sgt in the United States Marine Corps, have an eight year old daughter, Tayler Mae, and recently welcomed a son, Easton, in February 2012.

Religion Department Chair, Instructional Technology and Media Coordinator

Kelly Claverie, daughter Keith Claverie ’68 and granddaughter of Clifford Claverie ‘35, is a graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School and the University of Alabama with a BA in Religious Studies and minors in Music and Liberal Arts through the Blount Undergraduate Initiative. She is currently in her third year at Holy Cross and serves as the Religion Department Chair and Instructional Technology and Media Coordinator. Recently, she was named LACUE’s Region 3 Elementary School Teacher of the Year, named both a SMART Exemplary Teacher and a SMART Peer Educator and also became a SMART Certified Trainer. In addition, Kelly proudly serves on the Archbishop Chapelle Alumni Board.

Katie Codina

Middle School Band Director, High School Marching Band Director

Ms. Codina is in her sixth year as the Director of the Bengal Band and Marching Band Director of the Tiger Band. A native of Lafayette, LA, she is a graduate of Comeaux High School. She also is a summa cum laude graduate of Loyola University-New Orleans with a Bachelor of Music Education. Ms. Codina has performed as Principal Flutist with the Loyola Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, Piccoloist with the Acadian Wind Symphony, and Principal Flute in the CBDNA Intercollegiate Honor Band. She has received the Theodore Presser Musician of the Year Award, the Rev. R.J. McNaspy Musician of the Year Award, and the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women Sword of Honor. In 2011 Ms. Codina was named “Elementary Band Director of the Year” by the District VI Band Director’s Association. She has conducted the 2011 District VI Elementary Honor Band, the 2011 St. Charles Parish Honor Band, and was guest conductor for the 2011 Premiers Summer Honor Band. Ms. Codina is a member of the Louisiana Music Educators Association, Louisiana Bandmasters Association, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women, and Music Educators National Conference. As a member of the District VI Band Director’s Association, she has chaired the Marching Band Festival annually since 2009 and co-chaired Elementary Honor Band since 2010. Ms. Codina also maintains an active private lesson flute studio.

Shawn Collick (504)-942-1865

English II, and English III-H

Mr. Collick is in his thirteenth year as a high school English teacher, his third at Holy Cross School. While living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, he received his bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University with a major in English and a minor in sociology. Then he went back to school to pursue his teaching degree, which he received in Lake Charles, Louisiana from McNeese State University. He started his teaching career in Detroit at the school from which he graduated, and ultimately found his way here to New Orleans, the city he has called home for the last ten years. In addition to teaching English II, and English III-H, Mr. Collick will be teaching standardized test prep classes.

Dixie Crayton

Ms. Crayton enters her 21st year at Holy Cross as the Assistant to the Guidance Office. She has served in many other capacities over the years including Bookstore Manager and Accounts Payable. Dixie is the mother of two sons, Keith Gioe, Jr. & Dewey '96 and has two grandchildren, Chris Gioe '10 and Robyn Gioe.

Eric DesOrmeaux

Dean of Men 8-12, Head Wrestling Coach

Mr. DesOrmeaux not only fills the difficult role of Dean of Men, but also must fill the rather large shoes of Wrestling Hall of Fame Inductee, Brother Melchior Polowy, as the Head Coach of the Tiger wrestling program. He has been in education for the past 8 years and enters his third year as an integral part of the Holy Cross Administration. He is a graduate of Holy Cross School, where he received the Holy Cross Man Award, the Tiger Award, and the Catholic Leadership Award. Following his time at 4950 Dauphine, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Social Studies) from Louisiana State University and a Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans. DesOrmeaux also enters his third year as the head coach of the famed Holy Cross wrestling program. He served in the same capacity at Andrew Jackson High School in St. Bernard Parish prior to his return to his Alma Mater. Mr. DesOrmeaux was named Metro Wrestling Coach of the Year 2009 as well as Louisiana Wrestling Coach of the Year 2009.

Charles DiGange

Headmaster

Mr. DiGange has served the Holy Cross Family as Headmaster since 2004. He has led Holy Cross through the toughest time in the history of the school, enduring the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and initiating a plan to maintain the traditions of the institution even in a "rebuilding" mode. Prior to coming to his alma mater (Holy Cross class of 1964), Mr. DiGange spent a decade as the Associate Vice President of the Division of Institutional Advancement at Loyola University New Orleans. In addition, he brings over 25 years of development experience to Holy Cross. During his first tenure (1968-1989) at 4950 Dauphine, he served as a member of the Holy Cross Administration, taught chemistry, algebra, trigonometry, general science, and physical education, and also served as Assistant Headmaster for Development. Mr. DiGange holds a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Tulane University, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Loyola University New Orleans.

Richard Dixon

Geometry, Bowling Coach, Mu Alpha Theta

Mr. Ducote is entering his 2nd year at Holy Cross and will be teaching Geometry, coaching the Bowling Team, and running Mu Alpha Theta. He is a New Orleans native and graduate of De La Salle High School who earned his B.S. in Mathematics Education from North Carolina State University. A licensed pilot, Mr. Ducote was previously working as a flight instructor at the Lakefront Airport.

I was born in Tampa, Florida in 1970. I spent my early years in Orlando, Florida surfing, skateboarding, and playing tennis among a variety of other sports. I began painting and drawing in high school while also pursuing an interest in the theater. After high school I attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for theater in the fall of 1988. After my first year, I decided to change my major from acting to painting and enrolled at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. While at Skidmore I won a Liquitex Excellence in Art Grant and in my senior year I won the Jesse Solomon Award for painting. I graduated from Skidmore in 1994. In 1998, I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where I now live with my wife Mignon and four boys; Everest 2.9.12, Gryphon 4, Sebastian 8, and Jackson 18. I spend a lot of my free time skateboarding, biking and playing with my boys. I am currently in my 2nd year as the 3D Art teacher at Holy Cross School. I taught 2D and 3D art at the old HC campus for 5 years up to hurricane Katrina. My personal art is mostly figurative sculpture, painting and drawing. I am currently working on a show for DuMois gallery to open in Oct – Nov. 2012. I also do portraits, murals and other artwork on commission. Director of Counseling and Guidance
Professional School Counselor, 10th Grade

Karen joined the Holy Cross family in the spring of 2008 as an intern for her graduate counseling program, and began her career as a school counselor that fall. She attended the University of Arkansas (yes, she’s a Razorback!) and received her Master’s degree in Counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in May, 2011. Karen is an adjunct Professor at Our Lady of Holy Cross College where she teaches undergraduate psychology courses. She has two children, Daniel (20), and Sarah (14). Karen and her family had lived all over the country before arriving in New Orleans almost 10 years ago. She enjoys traveling, music, reading, gardening, and needle work.

7th Grade Louisiana History, Social Studies Department Chair, Assistant Football Coach, Head Golf Coach

Mr. Ellzey is beginning his 9th year as a member of the Holy Cross faculty and his 18th year in education. He teaches both Middle School Social Studies and serves as Social Studies Department Chair. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School and earned a B.A. from the University of New Orleans. His athletic duties include coaching the offensive line on the varsity football team as well as serving as the Head Golf Coach. He began his career as a volunteer junior high football coach at Jesuit. He then taught social studies and physical education at Archbishop Rummel where he was an assistant varsity football, basketball, and track coach. In 2001, he became the Head Football Coach at St. Martin’s Episcopal School where he remained for 3 years before coming to Holy Cross. Mr. Ellzey lives in Destrehan with his wife Michelle and has 3 children: Bryce, a member of the Holy Cross Class of 2009, Reid (7), and Brooklyn (5).

Director of Development

A 1986 graduate of Holy Cross School, Mr. Enterante started his career at Holy Cross as a fifth grader. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Southeastern Louisiana University. Prior to joining the staff as the Director of Alumni Relations, Mr. Enterante was employed in a senior management capacity for a non-profit company. He has over 17 years of experience in volunteer management, fundraising, and leadership. Mr. Enterante has been happily married for nine years and has one daughter. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the National Eagle Scout Association, and the Association of Fund Raising Professionals.

Donna Enterante

5th Grade English and Science

Mrs. Enterante teaches 5th grade English and Science. This is her second full year at Holy Cross. Mrs. Enterante graduated from California State University, Northridge where she earned both her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in general science and a Special Education teaching credential. She moved from Los Angeles to the New Orleans area two years ago. Mrs. E's husband, Tony (’86), is the Director of Alumni Relations for Holy Cross School. Mrs. E loves to read, scrapbook, and cook/bake with their daughter, Ashley.

Librarian

Ms. Falgoust begins her fifth year at Holy Cross as the school librarian. After graduating from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, she worked as a librarian at both elementary and high schools in the metro area. Ms. Falgoust is a member of the Greater New Orleans Catholic Library Association and the National Catholic Library Association. In 2009,, she received the prestigious Sr. Mary Aquin Lorio Award for her outstanding service as a librarian. Ms. Falgoust is married with two children and has two granddaughters.

Director of Student Activities, Business/Economics Teacher

Mr. Ferry is in his fourth year at Holy Cross High School where he is Director of Student Activities. He has also continued his role as Economics and Business teacher for the Junior and Senior level classes. Mr. Ferry is a graduate of Brother Martin High School class of '90 and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and a minor in Management from the University of New Orleans class of '94. Mr. Ferry has fourteen years experience in education, as well as three years of experience in school leadership as a past Disciplinarian and member of the School Leadership team. During his spare time, Mr. Ferry enjoys spending time with his wife Heidi and volunteers at Girard Playground where he coaches his children’s championship basketball, volleyball, and baseball teams. Mr. Ferry is a native of New Orleans and an avid Saints fan.

Randy Ford

Biology, Physical Education, 8th Grade Football Head Coach

Dr. Ford is happy to return to Holy Cross, having taught here during the 2007-08 school year. He is an alumnus of Archbishop Rummel High School and received a B.A. in Biology from Rhodes College, where he played football and baseball for the Lynx. Dr. Ford also has a M.S. in Biological Sciences from UNO and a Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy from Duke. For his dissertation research, he spent a year in Costa Rica studying howler monkeys. Dr. Ford has previously taught at Rummel, where he served as Science Department Chair and coached football and baseball. This year, he will teach Biology I and P.E. He will also be Head Coach for the 7th & 8th Grade Football Team and Middle School Track.

Ben Fortenberry

Web Developer, Web/AV Team Moderator

In his fourth year at HC, Mr. Fortenberry has designed numerous web applications for the school, including the website you are currently viewing. He has also implemented new and exciting changes such as online payment, online student council speeches & voting, streaming live video for announcements & major events as well as the ability for teachers and coaches to upload news directly to the Holy Cross website. With the assistance of the Web/AV Team, Mr. Fortenberry also handles video and sound requirements for various Holy Cross events, including instant replay at sporting events. Mr. Fortenberry has an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems and is nearing completion of his BA in Web Development at The University of Phoenix. He is married to the talented and beautiful Kolleen Fortenberry, has two sons, Abram and Ivan, and loves talking about himself in the third person.

John Gerrets

Adam Giglio

Middle School Physical Education Teacher

A graduate of Holy Cross in 2005, Mr. Giglio is entering his second year in education. He serves multiple roles at Holy Cross including the Middle School Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Varsity Football Coach. Mr. Giglio also serves as the Head Coach of the Powerlifting team, as well as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Varsity/Junior High Football, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Golf. While a student of Holy Cross, he was involved in Peer Ministry, Chorus, and a named a captain of the varsity football team. Mr. Giglio has earned his degree from the University of New Orleans in 2011. He and his wife Kaycee reside in St. Bernard.

Jennifer Haasé Gonzales (504)-252-9378

English III and English IV Honors, Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach

Jennifer Gonzales teaches both English III and English IV Honors and serves as the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach. Though this is her fifth year on the Holy Cross faculty, she has been part of the Holy Cross Family for quite some time as her mother taught at Holy Cross for nearly twenty years. While attending high school at Mt. Carmel Academy in New Orleans, Mrs. Gonzales was a majorette who twirled during the Holy Cross football and basketball halftime shows. She was also a Holy Cross Cheerleader from 2001-2003. She earned a B.A. in English (concentrating in Secondary Ed.) from Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) and recently earned her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of New Orleans. Mrs. Gonzales, formerly known as Miss Haase, recently wed a Holy Cross ’03 alum (who currently serves as the President of the Holy Cross Alumni Association). They met while he played basketball for HC under Coach Lumas and she was on the cheerleading team. The two are currently expecting their first little HC tiger or HC cheerleader come January of 2013!

High School Religion, High School English, Religion Department Chair

Don Greco was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, but has lived in the New Orleans area most of his life. He is a graduate of the Holy Cross class of ’64 and holds a BA from Loyola University with a major in Sociology and a minor in English. After receiving his MEd in Guidance and Counseling from Loyola in 1970, he served two years in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Army Security Agency. He is certified by the Archdiocese of New Orleans Institute of Catechetics to teach high-school religion. During the course of his thirty-six years in education he has taught English, journalism, speech, art, social studies, and religious studies in grades five through eight as well as working as dean of students and as a guidance counselor. He is in his twenty-sixth year at Holy Cross and currently teaches Religion 8.

David Hanemann

5th Grade Religion/Social Studies; Middle School Quiz Bowl Moderator

Another year and Mr. Hanemann is crossing Paris Avenue to teach once again at Holy Cross, just like Washington crossed the Delaware. In Spring 2009, he was a subsitute/teacher assistant in 7th Grade Social Studies, 5th Grade Social Studies, & Middle School Computer. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelors degree in Science. He expects the question, "Where did you graduate from," and he knows if he says the name of the certain school on Carrollton and Banks, he'll get some shocked expressions. He also represents the Black & Gold WhoDatNation 100%. He even knows much about the R.M.S Titanic (One day in the halls, ask him a question--he just might know it!). Finally, he is a member of three Honor Societies: Sigma Alpha Lambda, Sigma Alpha Pi, & The National Scholars Honor Society.

Stuart Hayers

Economics & Business Teacher; Middle School Soccer Head Coach

Stuart is joining the faculty for his first year of teaching after a successful first season as Middle School Soccer Head Coach at Holy Cross where he led the 5/6th & 7/8th teams to two state final appearances. Stuart, a native of London, England, holds a BS in Sports Coaching from the Welsh Institute of Sport, a BS in Business Administration and a Masters in Business both from Lynn University, FL. Following a professional soccer career in the UK Stuart came to the U.S on a soccer scholarship and following a playing career that includes three All-America awards and a selection to the Great Britain World Games 2009 squad turned to coaching. Stuart has coached in the NCAA as well as the United Soccer League and holds his UEFA 'B' licence. Coach Hayers will be teaching high school Business & Economics this year as well as continuing to head up the Middle School Soccer program.

Mr. Heller begins his 15th year at Holy Cross and currently holds the position of English Department Head. Additionally, he is the HC Karate Coach and the Director of the 8th Grade Center. He is an Alum of Holy Cross (1987), who earned his degree from the University of New Orleans in 1992. Mr. Heller has earned the Holy Cross Silver Medallion Award for Art and the Leadership Award at UNO. He is a member of the World Chanbara Federation, the United States Chanbara Association as a Louisiana representative from 2001-2007, and the United States Karate Alliance as a World Judge from 2001-2007. Coach Heller has directed the Karate Team since 1997. As a martial arts competitor himself, he has received the following accolades: 1995 - USA-NKF Regional (Gold Beginner), 1996 - USANILF Regional (Silver Intermediate), 1997 - USA-NKF Regional (Bronze Advanced), 2001 & 2004 USKA World Champion (Black Belt), and the 2002 USKA Runner-up World Champion (Black Belt).

7th Grade Science Teacher, Assistant Football and Track and Field Coach, Equipment Manager

Mr. Herzog is in his fourth year working at his alma mater after attending the University of Miami, where he received a B.S. in Education, served as undergraduate chairman of the School of Education student council, and worked as an equipment manager for the football team. Here at Holy Cross, Mr. Herzog will be teaching Life Science to 7th graders, coaching the defensive line, as well as coaching throwers for the track team. Mr. Herzog was born and raised in New Orleans. Coming from a family of teachers, his grandmother retired from teaching after more than 40 years, and his mother has been teaching for over 30 years.

Mrs. Hotard received her Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Therapy from Loyola University New Orleans. She is a member of the Music Educators' National Conference, the American Choral Directors’ Association, the international music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, and the American Guild of Musical Artists. Mrs. Hotard sings with the New Orleans Opera Chorus and the New Orleans Vocal Arts Chorale.

Mrs. Hrapmann is completing her fourth year as Director of Curriuculm, Instruction and Professional Development at Holy Cross School. She received her B.A. in Secondary English Education and her Masters +30 with a Reading Specialist from Northwestern State University. Retired from the classroom after 34 years with most of those years being in Gifted Education, Mrs. Hrapmann was one of the first 43 teachers in Louisiana to achieve National Board Certification. She has presented at the district, state and national levels on subjects such as reading across the curriculum and project based learning. Mrs. Hrapmann was inducted into the Northwestern State Hall of Distinguished Educators and serves as a member of the Northwestern Alumni Board. She has two sons who live in Thibodaux and is married to Coach Kenny Hrapmann '68. They live in the Gentilly area.

Mrs. Hunnicutt is the executive assistant to the High School Principal and is in charge of high school attendance on a daily basis. Art, Work Study Program Director

Warren Irwin teaches art and directs the work study program in his sixth year at Holy Cross. His Bachelor of Arts in studio art was completed at Trinity University(TX) in 1998 and he obtained his Master of Arts in Teaching from Jacksonville University(FL) in 2000. In his teaching career, he has completed fellowships awarded by Columbia University Teachers' College, Kansas City Art Institute, and Skidmore College, as well as held internships at New Orleans Museum of Art(where he was also employed at one time), the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. In his career as an artist, Mr. Irwin has had four exhibitions of his work since 2004, and has had his work shown in national, regional, and local competitions on four occasions in 2009. He also has experience as an academic advisor at Tulane University. A native of New Orleans, he is a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School, as is his wife, Jenny. He has a three year old son, Palmer, and stepdaughters Cameron, 15, and Helen Rayne, 13.

A member of the class of 2000, Mr. Jackson is in his fourth year as a religion teacher at Holy Cross School. Mr. Jackson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at Dillard University in New Orleans. Along with teaching Senior Religion, Mr. Jackson will head the Holy Cross Campus Ministry Department, and will assist coaching the Varsity, JV, and 9th grade football teams. Mr. Jackson will also coordinate the Immersion Service Program. While at Holy Cross, he played on the football team, threw shot put for track & field, was a member of the chorus, and a Tiger Award recipient. Mr. Jackson and his wife Rachael welcomed their first baby, Gianna, in June 2009.

Dr. Jacobi is a new faculty member in the English Department and is excited to join the Holy Cross community. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Miami in 2009 after earning both her M.A. and her B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!). Dr. Jacobi began her teaching career in 2005 at the University of Miami, where she designed and taught a variety of English composition and literature courses. She is a native of Destrehan, Louisiana.

Coach Kamlade is a 2004 graduate of Holy Cross. He later attended Delgado on a baseball scholarship as well as UNO. This year Coach Kamlade will serve as the Academic Assistant. He will also coach varsity football, 8th grade baseball, and the strength & conditioning program. While a student at Holy Cross, he was a letterman of both football and baseball. As a member of the baseball team he was team captain, all-district, all-metro, honorable mention all-state, and LHSAA all-star game participant. I was born in Denver, CO and have lived in the panhandle of Texas for most of my life. I graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology from Louisiana College in 2009. I was a 3 year starter at safety, wide receiver, and punt returner at LC. I also received All-American Southwest Conference honors as a sophomore as a return specialist. At Holy Cross, I coach the wide receivers and kickers as well as assisting Coach Giglio with strength and conditioning. I outkicked my coverage by marrying Mount Carmel Alum, Julie Alvarez, and we live in Lakeview with our black Labrador Retriever, Jackson.

Mister Kirkwood

World Geography, Civics, Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, and Middle School Football Coach

Coach Kirkwood enters his thirteenth year in education, and his first full year at Holy Cross. He is a graduate of Crescent City School, and received a B.S. in Liberal Arts from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Currently he teaches World Geography and Civics. He is also serving as an assistant coach for Varsity Basketball and Middle School Football. Prior to Holy Cross, Coach Kirkwood was an assistant basketball coach at Archbishop Rummel (2004-2011), Archbishop Shaw (2001-2004), and Riverdale (2000-2001).

Brian Kitchen

Brian Kitchen enters his fifteenth year in education and his thirteenth at Holy Cross. He is a graduate of the University of New Orleans. Working as Director of Admissions for the past seven years, he previously served as Director of Student Activities, English teacher, class moderator and varsity soccer coach. Mr. Kitchen has been happily married for eleven years, has two daughters and a boxer named Gumbeau.

Ronnie Kornick

Middle School Dean of Men, Asst. Baseball Coach

Ronnie Kornick enters his 6th year at Holy Cross as the Middle School Dean of Men and Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach. During his tenure at Holy Cross, he has served as Director of Student Activities and also was a proud assistant of the prestigious TCAC program. He is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University where he was a multiple baseball letter winner and was named team Captain his senior season in 1997. He served as an assistant baseball coach on the college level for four years at SLU and Laredo(TX) JC, as well as at his alma mater Archbishop Hannan High School for five years where he was also Athletic Director. A lifelong native of Chalmette, Kornick now resides in Metairie and is currently engaged to be married.

Mrs. Lavender is entering her fourth year at Holy Cross. She is a graduate of Cabrini High School and she earned her BS in General Studies from UNO. She is also the moderator of the St. Andre Service Society and helps the members organize service projects. Mrs. Lavender is married to a Holy Cross graduate and she has a family legacy at Holy Cross which extends to her grandfather, uncle, cousins, brother-in-laws and her father-in-law.

Mr. Lindsey enters his seventh year in education and his fifth at Holy Cross. His father was a member of the class of 1969. After graduating from Archbishop Rummel in 1996, Mr. Lindsey received a B.S. in pre-med biology from Loyola University of New Orleans. During a distinguished career as a four-year letterman and two-time all-conference catcher, Mr. Lindsey obtained career and single-season records in five offensive categories. After Loyola, he was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals baseball organization in the 29th round of the 2000 draft as a pitcher. In 2012, he became a member of the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame. His pleasures include the outdoors, photography, weightlifting and things that go really fast. He is currently teaching Biology I Honors, Biology II and Biology II Honors. Mr. Lindsey will be part of the varsity baseball coaching staff handling strength and conditioning, pitchers and catchers.

Coach Lumas has spent all of his nine years in education with Holy Cross School. He currently teaches 7th and 8th grade Religion and is the Head Basketball Coach of the Tigers. Mr. Lumas is a graduate of St. Augustine High School and Loyola University New Orleans. Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the Tigers, Coach Lumas served as an assistant at HC from 2000-2005 and an assistant for the Wolfpack of Loyola from 1997-1999. In addition, he played for the Wolfpack in 1996 and 1997. During his time at Holy Cross, Mr. Lumas has taught P.E., History, Psychology, Sociology, and 7th, 8th, 9th, and 11th grade Religion.

Sue Ellen Lyons began her teaching career in 1966. She teaches AP Environmental Science, Integrated Science Honors, and Environmental Science at Holy Cross, where she has served since 1978. She is chair of the HC Science Department and the Assistant Athletic Director. In addition to teaching at HC, Sue Ellen is an adjunct professor at Herzing University, teaching Environmental Science, as well as teaching Physical Geology & Historical Geology at Delgado Community College. During her career, Sue Ellen has received awards at the local, state and national levels, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and the National Wetlands Educator of the Year Award. Sue Ellen is the mother of a son (HC, ’87) and has two grandchildren, Colby (HC, ’10) and Lauren. She enjoys photography, reading, and saving the Earth.

Mrs. Mitchell is a native of the city and is a graduate of Archbishop Blenk High School and UNO where she received her BA and M Ed degrees. In this, her fourth year at Holy Cross, she brings over 39 years of experience in math and computer education. She has previous taught at John McDonogh, Seton Academy, Redeemer-Seton High and St. Mary Magdalen Middle School. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Mrs. Montalbano is in her third year at Holy Cross as librarian assistant.She is married to Jeff Montalbano and they have three sons.Their twins, Braden and Brandon, graduated from Holy Cross in 2008. Their youngest son, Bryce,will graduate from Holy Cross in the year 2015.

Joseph Murry

High School Principal

Dr. Joseph H. Murry, Jr. has been the principal of Holy Cross School since 2004. He has spent a quarter century in education, earning Area II Principal of the Year (1997-98) of Orleans Public Schools as well as High School Principal of the Year for Orleans Parish (2001-02). Dr. Murry is a graduate of St. Aloysius High School, New Orleans, earned his B.A. from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (presently ULL), a Masters from Southeastern Louisiana University, and his PhD from the University of New Orleans. While attending USL, he was the Gulf States Conference Champion in the shot put and was the captain of the Ragin’ Cajun Track Team. He also competed as a member of the Weightlifting Team where, as the team’s captain, he set 4 national heavyweight records en route to a national championship. His other weightlifting accolades include: Champion 1968 (set 3 national records), AAU Sr. National Champion 1968 (set 2 national records); All-American Weightlifting Team 1968; YMCA National Champion 1972; 1972 Olympic Trials (3rd place Heavyweight). Dr. Murry was an assistant coach in football, Head Tennis and Soccer Coach, and the Athletic Director at Abramson High School, before being promoted to Principal of the New Orleans school. In addition, he served as an assistant coach at Metairie Park Country Day School and was the Strength Coach and Physical Coordinator for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League.

Ms. Nicoladis teaches 5th Grade and 6th Grade Social Studies and is the moderator for the Brother Andre Service Society for middle school students. She is a native New Orleanian, and brings ten years of educational experience to our campus. She graduated from St. Martin's Episcopal before earning her B.A. in Sociology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and has a Masters in Education. Ms.Nicoladis organizes field trips for 5th and 6th grades. This year she will also moderate the second Washington, D.C. trip for 6th and 7th graders. In addition, she assists the HC website as a contributing photographer.

Coach Paladino enters his 12th year in education, and his first full year at Holy Cross. He is a graduate of East St. John, and received a B.G.S. in American Studies from the University of New Orleans. Currently he teaches World History. He is also serving as an assistant coach for Varsity Football coaching the secondary. Prior to Holy Cross, Coach Paladino was an assistant football coach at Archbishop Shaw (2007-2011), Riverside Academy (2004-2007), and Brother Martin (2000-2004).

Norman Pineda

World Languages - Spanish

Sr. Pineda was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He earned his BA in history from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. Entering his first year at Holy Cross School, his career in education started as a member of AmeriCorps National Service Initiative/DadeREADS! at Van E. Blanton Elementary School, Miami, Florida as a reading tutor. During his teaching career, Sr. Pineda has taught Spanish, philosophy, social studies, and history at the high school level, and he has also been an instructor of conversational Spanish I & II and Spanish for First Responders at UNO-Metropolitan College. His involvement outside of the classroom has allowed Sr. Pineda to coach soccer, football, and baseball. He lives in Metairie with his wife, Stephanie, his extremely cool daughter Cecilia, and a five member clan of four-legged rescued friends. This year Sr. Pineda will be teaching Spanish II and Spanish II Honors. In addition, he will be assisting with middle school soccer and 8th grade football.

Coach Rebaudo is the Department Head of the Holy Cross Physical Education Department and is the Summer Camp Director. He has spent the past fifteen years working in education, with the last 10 years on the faculty of Holy Cross. Coach Rebaudo is a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School, and he received his Accounting Degree from LSU. He is the Assistant Head Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator. He is also the Head Varsity Track Coach. Prior to coming on board, Coach Rebaudo was an assistant football, J.V. basketball and head track coach at Ridgewood Prep (1997-2000), and assistant football and track coach at Archbishop Rummel (2000-2002).

Katherine Schilling

Biology

Katherine Schilling is a New Orleans native, where she attended Ursuline Academy. After graduating with a B.S. degree in Biology from MIT in Cambridge, MA, she taught Biology and Chemistry at Franklin High School in Franklin, MA, for 2 years. She returned to Louisiana in 2006 to attend graduate school at LSU and has since earned her PhD in Biological Sciences. Her biology research has been presented at national meetings in Boston, MA and San Diego, CA and her work has been published in 3 different papers, with a 4th manuscript in the works. Dr. Schilling will be teaching Biology I and is looking forward to helping to develop an AP Biology program as well the Science Fair with Dr. Bernard.

Coach Serio enters his 39th year in education and 27th at Holy Cross. He begins his second year as full-time Middle School Athletic Director. He has served previously as Assistant Athletic Director in 1987 at Holy Cross. He has held the position of High School Athletic Director at St. John Prep in New Orleans and Pope John Paul II in Slidell. Throughout his career, Coach Serio has been a head coach in basketball, baseball, and tennis at the varsity level and a varsity assistant and middle school coach in football. He holds a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of New Orleans.

Ms. Shea is beginning her first year at Holy Cross. She will serve as the French teacher for French I through French IV AP, as well as the moderator of the French club. Before joining the Holy Cross family, Ms. Shea worked in Paris, France for a language education company. Ms. Shea attended Ursuline Academy New Orleans and is a graduate of the University of New Orleans. She received her master’s degree in Foreign Languages, with a concentration in French and second language acquisition, from George Mason University.

Mr. Simpson has spent 10 of his eighteen years teaching at Holy Cross. He is an Alum of Brother Martin High School and earned his B.A. in Communications from LSU. He currently teaches World Geography and Physical Education. Simpson has worked his way up the football coaching ranks to the position of Offensive Coordinator for the Tigers. Positions he has held have included: Defensive Backs Coach at HC (1994-1995), Quarterbacks & Wide Receivers Coach at Jesuit (1995-2000), Offensive Coordinator at Brother Martin (2000-2001), and Receivers Coach back at HC (2001-2005), and Offensive Coordinator (2005-Present). He is a resident of Metairie, where he resides with his wife Rachelle, and his daughter Hanley and son Cade (HC-6th Grade).

Mrs. Sixkiller has been with Holy Cross for 30 years and currently serves as the Administrative Assistant to Glenn Hayes, Assistant Headmaster, Institutional Advancement. She is a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School and Spencer Business College. Mrs. Sixkiller has two sons who graduated from HC - Donald '88 and Darren '93. She has a grandson, James, who is in the Class of 2018. Her nephew, Jamie graduated in 1990. Her sister Susie is the Administrative Assisistant to Mrs. Billings in the Midle School.

Alesandra Stierwald Nugent teaches Spanish II and 3 sections of the 7th grade foreign language class. Mrs. Nugent attended St. Rosalie School in Harvey, St. Mary’s Dominican High School, and earned a B.A. in Spanish from Loyola University New Orleans.

This is Stephanie's third year at Holy Cross. She is currently our 9th and 10th grade counselor. Before coming to Holy Cross, she worked for a local non-profit, Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans. Stephanie earned her master's degree in Counselor Education from UNO while working with the Academy of Sacred Heart. She currently resides uptown with her husband, Matt, and three year old twins, Luke and Cecilia. During her valuable but limited free time, Stephanie enjoys being with her family, exploring the city's incomparable music and culinary scene, and anything that involves relaxing. She is very excited about continuing to work with the wonderful students, families, faculty and staff at Holy Cross!

Eric Supan is the technology assistant at Holy Cross and is continuing his first year. He is responsible for the upkeep of the students laptops as well as helping out the faculty and staff. He attended Covington High School and graduated from LSU in 2009. Eric has been working with and fixing computers for six years.

Gloria Sykes is completing her fourth year at Holy Cross. She is a graduate of Riverdale High School, Cameron Business College and attended Delgado Community College. Mrs. Sykes also has a son who will be a senior next year and resides in Kenner.

Gaye Trombatore

Professional School Counselor, 11th and 12th Grade

Ms. Trombatore is looking forward to her first year at Holy Cross. She is currently our 11th and 12th grade counselor. Before joining the Holy Cross Family, Gaye worked for 7 years as a school counselor in Metairie and New Orleans. She is a graduate of Cabrini High School, and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology, as well as her Master’s in Counseling from UNO. She has a daughter starting college this fall, and two sons ages 16 and 14. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, relaxing and watching the Saints.

Mr. Turner teaches Algebra and Physics and is the Head Swimming Coach. A graduate of New Site High School (New Site, MS) Mr. Turner earned a degree in Biological Engineering from Mississippi State University.

Tiger Band Director

Mr. Urbaszewski is in his ninth year at Holy Cross and his 13th year of teaching. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master’s degree in clarinet performance from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He was in the Marine Corps Band from 1969-1973 and the United States Navy Band from 1984-2004. He has been married to Beth since 1981 and they have two daughters, Catherine and Madeleine. Catherine is a court reporter for the Thiboodaux Comet and Madeleine is a sophomore at Covenant College at Lookout Mountain, Georgia..

Middle School Math, Middle School Drama, Speech, Cheerleading Coach, and Blue Circle Moderator

Miss Julianne Watson enters her 5th year teaching at Holy Cross. She teaches Math 5 and Drama 6 and coaches the Cheerleaders and is the Blue Circle Moderator. After graduating from Mount Carmel Academy, she went on to Loyola University New Orleans. In her free time, Miss Watson teaches dance classes at a local studio. Her father, Dick Watson ’66 and brothers, Rick Watson ’92 and Dr. Kevin Watson ’94 are all graduates of Holy Cross and are often seen on campus.

Middle School Counselor

Matt joined the Holy Cross Family in the Fall of 2008 and this year he will be working as the Middle School Counselor serving the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in addition to teaching Psychology Honors. A life-long resident of New Orleans, Matt attended high school at an institution on Carrollton and Banks (which shall remain nameless) before completing his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Spring Hill College followed by his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Loyola New Orleans. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Counselor Education at the University of New Orleans. In his free time Matt enjoys traveling, live music, unorthodox conversations, and his undying allegiance to the Who Dat Nation.

Mr. Westfall brings more than 10 years of education experience to Holy Cross School as a chemistry and geometry teacher. A 1992 graduate of Holy Cross School, he went on to graduate from Louisiana State University with a bachelor of science in Conservation Biology. Mr. Westfall is currently furthering his education by pursuing a masters of science degree from the University of New Orleans.

A 2006 graduate from Holy Cross, Phillip White is entering into his third year teaching at his alma mater. Mr. White will be teaching 9th grade physical science and is the Assistant Athletic Trainer, Assistant Baseball Coach and the Junior Varsity Baseball Coach. He graduated from Southeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. His brother Jordan graduated from Holy Cross in 2010

Michelle Willis

Middle School Math

Mrs. Willis is starting her 7th year teaching, but this will be her first year at Holy Cross. She is a graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School and earned her BS in elementary education from The University of Southern Mississippi. She is a member of The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics and The Louisiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Mrs. Willis is married to Garret Willis, an alumnae of Holy Cross and they have one son, Graham. She enjoys participating in and coaching sports and she is looking forward to working with the faculty, staff and students of Holy Cross.

High School Physical Education, Head Football Coach

Mr. Wilson has been the Head Football Coach and a Physical Education teacher for the past 11 years. He is a Holy Cross School Alum and has been teaching for 42 years. Wilson earned his Bachelor of Science degree from LSU, where he also was captain of the 1968 Fighting Tiger Football Team. Wilson was an All-SEC selection, and he was a member of Tiger teams that competed in the Sugar and Cotton Bowls. In addition, he is a member of the LHSAA Louisiana Football Coaches Association and a Lifetime Member of the American Football Coaches Association.

Head Athletic Trainer

Mr. Yentzen, or Coach Hunter, is entering his fourth year at Holy Cross as Head Athletic Trainer. This year he will also be teaching P.E. and Sports Medicine. Coach Hunter received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology-Athletic Training from Louisiana State University and his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from The University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Yentzen is a member of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southeastern Athletic Trainers’ Association and National Athletic Trainers’ Association. He is married to Mary Katherine Yentzen, the asssitant to the Admission's Director.

Mrs. Yentzen is in her third year at Holy Cross and second year in the Admissions Office. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, MS and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Yentzen is the wife of Coach Hunter Yentzen, the Head Athletic Trainer for Holy Cross.
