Holy Cross has a strong commitment to the arts and a comprehensive visual arts program that include 2-dimensional arts, 3-dimensional arts, and the history and appreciation of art.
One year of art is required to graduate from Holy Cross while two years are required for TOPS. The Art Survey course fulfills the TOPS two year requirement in one year.
Up to four studio art credits may be earned in high school. The visual art survey semester is taught as an art history course.
While in Art I, the students learn the Elements and Principles of art through analysis of art work and studio work. Throughout Art I to IV, students learn to apply these elements and principles to learn a variety of art processes in both two dimensional and three dimensional media. This media may include charcoal, pencil, pastels, printmaking, acrylic painting, watercolor, paper mache, clay sculpture, wood construction, and wire sculpture.
